Myths
December 13, 2006
The Insurance TOP TEN Myths are common Life and Health insurance beliefs that are wrong, or at least misunderstood. We are presenting these in a humorous way, with thanks to David Letterman for popularizing the style.
- It’s expensive. Try paying for your own brain transplant! Hey, just kidding, but at least a high deductible plan (they are very cheap) will cover the big stuff, if it happens, and then if you need a new brain, it’s affordable.
- I can get it later. We get so many phone calls from people who have that 24 hour brain tumor that’s been going around, or from others who are “a little bit pregnant”. Please shop and select your insurance policies BEFORE you need them.
- I already have coverage. Check your coverage, if you have a newborn baby, they are NOT automatically added in most cases, if you are getting married, you may NOT have maternity at all. Check out your coverage before you get surprised.
- I’m under my parents. OOPS! This one gets a lot of folks, because if you are over 18 and not a full time student, you usually get dropped, if you are 24 years old, you usually get dropped, and if you get married, you will get dropped regardless of age. Don’t find out the hard way, that you are off the policy!
- I am getting a great deal. This one is easy. Just compare your plan to competitive plans, call us if you need help. If you have had your policy a few years, whether it’s Life or Health, you should have a look. Rates have been dropping on Life and Policy changes have affected Health.
- I don’t need it, the government will cover me. If you have nothing, you have nothing to lose. But if you have anything, or others depend on you for financial support, you need both Life and Health insurance.
- I’d never use it. Well thank the ever lovin’ hand of providence! Do you really WANT you money’s worth from a Life Insurance Policy?!?!
- I’m healthy, don’t need it. In lots of cases you need no Life Insurance, only if someone would suffer FINANCIALLY from your early demise. But we have found that people become un-insurable (can’t qualify) , either from Diabetes, Depression, Obesity or other reasons, and are unable to get the Life or Health policies they would like, so get it while you are still immortal!
- I’ll get it tomorrow. Don’t wait, there is no benefit to waiting, you will be betting a losing hand. At least check the options and rates to see if you are trying to avoid a small cost by paying a huge cost.
- It’s a hassle. Okay, we agree, it’s less fun than a massage at the spa. In fact, it’s a cross between a funeral and a root canal. But we will do our best to clarify your options, and to save you money. Give us a call, we’ll be glad to hear from ya!
